Lighting, The New Way:
LCD or halogen lighting that can be work surface based
 
Advantages:
- Better quality of light
- Lower energy usage
- More ability to get the light where you need it
- More ability to control the brightness of the light

Disadvantages:
- Higher initial cost, but lower cost of energy

Lighting, The Old Way:
Lights under shelves and overheads-fluorescent
Advantages:

Disadvantages:
- Non-directional light
- Fluorescent
- No ability to control brightness

Worktools
The New Way:
Using the vertical space in a workstation or private office to stop working in "piles"
 
 
 
 
  
 
 
Advantages:
- Studies have shown that worktool usage VASTLY improves productivity by putting the work in front of the user instead of working in piles or tucked away in a drawer
- Use of vertical space for storage instead of real estate
- Putting things at peoples fingertips instead of having to go through piles to find things
- The ability to project onto white board material that has projection friendly surfaces (no need to buy a screen)
- Smart board integration - white board notations become e-mailable

Disadvantages:
- Minimal cost of the worktools ( easily should be made up by creating a smaller footprint for the users workstation thus decreasing the real estate requirement)

The Old Way:
Not available in workstations or private offices
